The main road that links Ethiopia to Djibouti (Port) has this afternoon been blocked by the Afar youth, De Birhan understands.

According to De Birhan's sources, the the main highway between Mille and Adayetu has been blocked and transportation to and from the region has been ceased. The Highway remained blocked when this report was being posted.

Some parties are stating that the residents have blocked the road after they learnt that the government was to "arrest a prominent Afar Muslim scholar, Sheik Mohammed Awol al Hitani". The Afar Regional State is one of the nine regional states of Ethiopia, and is the homeland of the Afar people. Its capital is Semera and lies on the paved Awash–Asseb highway.
