Human Rights Council adopts Universal Periodic Review outcome on Ethiopia

ፌስቡክ ወርሃዊ ክፍያ ሊጠይቅ ነው

ከ1 ነጥብ 317 ቢሊዮን በላይ ተጠቃሚዎች ያሉት ፌስቡክ የተሰኘው ማህበራዊ ድረገፅ ከህዳር 22 ቀን 2007 ዓ.ም ጀምሮ ተጠቃሚዎች በየወሩ ሶስት የአሜሪካን ዶላር (60 ብር ገደማ) እንዲከፍሉ ወሰነ።

የፌስቡክ መሥራችና ቺፍ ኤግዚኪዩቲቭ ኦፊሰር ማርክ ዙክምበርክ ከትላንት በስቲያ በአሜሪካን ሀገር በጉዳዩ ላይ ይፋዊ መግለጫ በሰጡበት ወቅት ለወርሃዊ ክፍያው የሰጡት ምክንያት የአስተዳደራዊ ወጪ እየናረ መምጣትን ነው።

ፌስቡክ አሁን ካሉት 1 ነጥብ 317 ቢሊዮን ተጠቃሚዎች 75 በመቶ ያህሉ በየወሩ የአባልነት 3 ዶላር ሊሰበስብ እንደሚችል የገመተ ሲሆን ይህም ገንዘብ በዓመት እስከ 3 ቢሊዮን ዶላር ገቢ ያስገኝለታል።

የፌስቡክ ቃለአቀባይ ሚስተር ፓውል ሆናነር ስለጉዳዩ ለሲ.ኤን. ኤን የቴሌቭዥን ጣቢያ በሰጡት አስተያየት በየቀኑ ፌስቡክን በ100ሺዎች የሚቆጠሩ ሰዎች እንደሚቀላቀሉ አስታውሰው የወርሃዊ የአባልነት ክፍያው መጣሉ ፌስቡክም ራሱ እንዳላስደሰተው ገልፀዋል።

በኢትዮጵያ በአሁኑ ወቅት የፌስቡክ አካውንት ያላቸው ከ902 ሺ 440 በላይ ያህል ዜጎች መሆናቸውን መረጃዎች የሚያመለክቱ ሲሆን በሀገሪቱ ካለው የውጪ ምንዛሪ እጥረት ጋር ተያይዞ ዶላር በባንክ ማስተላለፍ ስለማይቻል በኢትዮጵያ የሚገኙ አብዛኛዎቹ የማኅበራዊ ድረገጽ ተጠቃሚዎች ከአገልግሎቱ ውጪ ሊሆኑ እንደሚችሉ የብዙዎች ግምት ሆኗል።

UN experts urge Ethiopia to stop using anti-terrorism legislation to curb human rights

September 21, 2014, GENEVA (United Nations Human Rights) – A group of United Nations human rights experts* today urged the Government of Ethiopia to stop misusing anti-terrorism legislation to curb freedoms of expression and association in the country, amid reports that people continue to be detained arbitrarily.

The experts’ call comes on the eve of the consideration by Ethiopia of a series of recommendations made earlier this year by members of the Human Rights Council in a process known as the Universal Periodic Review which applies equally to all 193 UN Members States. These recommendations are aimed at improving the protection and promotion of human rights in the country, including in the context of counter-terrorism measures.

August 31, 2014 (Oromo Press) — The announcement of the implementation of the Addis Ababa Master Plan (AAMP) was just an extension of an attempt by EPRDF government at legalizing its plans of ridding the Oromo people from in and around Finfinne by grabbing Oromo land for its party leaders and real estate developers from the Tigrean community. The act of destroying Oromo farmers by taking away their only means of survival—the land—precedes the current master plan by decades.  Ermias Legesse, exiled EPRDF Deputy Minister of Communication Affairs, acknowledged his own complicity in the destruction of 150,000[1] Oromo farmers in the Oromia region immediately adjacent to Finfinne. He testifies that high-level TPLF/EPRDF officials are responsible for planning and coordinating massive land-grab campaigns without any consideration of the people atop the land.  Ermia’s testimony is important because it contains both the actus reus  and dolus specials of the mass evictions[2]:

የተቃዋሚ የፖለቲካ ድርጅቶች የሚያስተባብሩ ከሆነ ሕዝቡ የሚከፈለውን መስእዋትነት ለመክፈል ወደኋላ የማይል መሆኑን የጠቆመው ሪፖርት የከተማው የተማረውም ያልተማረውም ሕብረተሰብ በወያኔ ላይ ከፍተኛ ጥላቻ ስላለው ለመጭው ጊዜ ከፍተኛ የሆነ የስራ ማቆም አድማ እና የተማሪዎች አመጽ ያሰጋል ሲል ሪፖርቱ ተናግሯል። እንደ ምንጮቹ አገላለጽ ክሆነ የሃገር ቤት ፓርቲዎች በተለይ ሰማያዊ እና መኢአድ ይህንን እንቅስቃሴ ያስተባብራሉ የሚል የሕዝቡንም አትኩሮት መሳብ እንደቻሉ ሲታወቅ አንድነት እና መድረክ ፓርቲ ውስጥ ያሉ እና ያሰጋሉ የሚባሉ መዋቅሮችን በቁጥጥር ስር ለማዋል ጥረቱ መቀጠሉን ሪፖርቱ አውስቷል።

Tanzania police arrests 48 Ethiopians hiding in a forest

CHALINZE, TANZANIA – Police in Coast region in collaboration with the Immigration Department have apprehended 48 immigrants of Ethiopia on Friday night at around 8.00 pm, at Ubena forest, Chalinze division in Bagamoyo district.

Confirming the report, Acting Regional Police Commander SSP Athumani Mwambalaswa told reporters on Saturday that the Ethiopians were deserted by agents who had promised to take them to their destination, but failed to keep to their promise leaving the immigrants wandering in the forest for a total of 15 days, without food or water.

Regional Immigration Officer, Mr Ndelema Mwakipesile said that the immigrants were found in really bad health due to hunger, thirst and fatigue. “When we rounded them up in the forest, we gave them glucose and food as they were very weak,” he said. According to Mr Mwakipesile, the immigrants are expected to appear in court next week.
